Papua New Guinea is a place I call home, I was born in Port Moresby in 1977. I am blessed to have had the most colorful and incredible upbringing, a European Father and an Asian Mother and many Aunties and Uncles from all over the world. As a child I would watch movies and wish I would one day live in a big city and reside in a cool loft apartment with a glamourous job that would allow me designer clothes and shoes, and as grateful as I am for this beautiful life I lead (the manifestations of my childhood are uncanny) I am even more drawn to the place where I spent my childhood, where all those seeds were planted. For anyone that has the opportunity to spend time in Papua New Guinea, I would strongly urge you to travel to a remote beach, eat freshly caught fish, go to the market and buy organic pineapple and banana, chew Buai (I should be honest, I have only even tried the husk of the Betel Nut), learn some Tok Ples and visit a local market. Enjoy the smiles and the generous hospitality. Soak up the humidity, enjoy the sunshine. Admire the local Artists and their work and their interpretations of their world which is a melting pot of color and culture. Appreciate the intricate workmanship of the carved wooden art and baskets, and do not forget the Bilums… This website is a virtual chest of the many bilums I have personally curated, it is also a platform where I showcase locally made jewellery with locally sourced materials and other works of art. My passion lies in the styling and personal use of these special pieces, I have a genuine love for anything that is creative, handmade and natural and to find anything that beholds these elements is rare in this current environment we live in. I also make it a point to not only buy pieces, but to engage and be curious of the origin, I always walk away with a small history of the piece told by the Artist or Seller themselves. This website allows a part of me to continue living in the nostalgia in which I grew up, it also gives me a creative outlet to promote beautiful works that are authentic and made with specialised and anachronistic skills.
